Monday, October 4th, 8 pm: The Cafe Irreal International
Imagination
A night of irrealism
Since
it first went online in 1998, the Internet journal The Cafe
Irreal has published stories by over 130 different
authors from 18 different countries. True to its origins
in Prague -- and its mission of publishing fiction of the
sort that Franz Kafka wrote - it has published many translations
of contemporary Czech authors. In tonight's program G.S.
Evans, Cafe Irreal coeditor, will read from these Czech translations.
This sampling of imaginative fiction from contemporary Czech
authors will include stories by Marian Palla, Ewald Murrer,
Vít Erban, Josef Janda, J. Valoch, V. Chase, and Jiri
Kratochvil.
G.S. Evans is a writer and translator who has been dividing
his time between The Czech Republic and the United States
since 1993. An excerpt from his short novel, "The Secret
Czech Diary of Frederick Baron," translated into Czech,
recently appeared in the Czech literary monthly Host
