Georgia Scott and
Wolfgang Gortschacher - Monday, July 21st, 2003
An unforgettable "Baltic
Evening". Wolfgang Gortschacher, with a help of Ken Nash
read from the Anthology of Contemporary Lithuaninan Poetry he edited
and published lately. Georgia Scott brought us some sand from the
beaches of Gdansk and much fun!
Georgia Scott is the author of "The Good Wife" (Poetry
Salzburg Press 2002), and the forthcoming, "Cakes with Bathsheba"
(July, 2003, U.S.). Ms. Scott gave one of her first poetry
readings at a 1980's banned meeting of Solidarity (committee
of striking Polish shipworkers, Gdansk, under Lech Walesa).
Since then she has read her work throughout Europe and the
US, including the Encontro International de Poetas in Coimbra,
Portugal and last year's International Poetry Festival in
Olomouc, Czech Republic (photo). Her work has been translated
into six languages. She has worked as a reporter, human rights
activist and on radio. She is now Associate Professor of English
at University of Gdansk in Poland. Wolfgang Gortschacher is
the publisher of Poetry Salzburg, Vienna. With co-editor,
Laima Sruoginis, he recently brought out, "Raw Amber:
An Anthology of Contemporary Lithuanian Poetry", this year's
Frankfurt Book Fair official Lithuanian entry.
